Another thing you all have to understand, at least especially you Donna, is you’re spending all your time in this non-dimensional 2-dimensional space that is the internet, speaking to people at a remove, whose lives you are not intertwined with. I notice that problem a lot on the Left, I hear it on NPR and even see it in other previously very deep and reputable venues like The New Yorker. The Left has become an elite, much like the bulk of the Democratic Party, with money, quick to call out those not like them or agreeing with them. I can see why the “forgotten” working people of the midwest feel alienated and angered by them, who are suffering and struggling with real problems every day. And Roseanne and Dan Connor represent and give voice to such people. Wait till you see Joey and Giselle Stivic in my The New All In The Family if you think it can’t happen. Look in the mirror first before you condemn. Roseanne, whatever craziness she’s come to off screen, is someone bringing it back to what really matters—family, honesty and human values. I don’t think either the actor or the character was or will ever be a bona fide Republican, just a woman always in rebellion, always her own person, giving voice to so many unheard people, such as Mark, her grandson, who dresses a little too colorfully for a struggling midwestern working class town (Darlene, her daughter and his mom, had raised him in Chicago and had to move the family back to small town USA when she lost her job, proof itself that the Trump “boom” has too many holes in it, as everywhere I turn, people are broke, struggling, losing their jobs, unprepared to re-invent themselves and start a business as many millenials are doing now). The most touching scene is when Roseanne says to Mark, you must choose your battles and is this a battle you’re willing to fight? To which Mark, in character with his own independent minded mom, Darlene, played by Sara Gilbert, says unequivocally yes. I would look for Mark, with his bright smile (a smile is like the sun on a bright day) to be a powerful force to be reckoned with on the show in the upcoming episodes. Roseanne clearly accomplished what she set out—to challenge and provoke all of you armchair liberals–and conservatives—who want easier answers to life’s reality, which is far more, way more complex than can be expressed online in any social media post.
To my sweet love,
A mi dulce amor,
I know our love has been moving fast on the mental plane.
At the same time, it has been moving very slowly in the physical realm.
Every night I go to bed very lonely and flooded over with continually frustrated desire to clasp my body in passion to a very beautiful woman like you.
On the days and nights when you greet me and tell me you love me with your emoji kisses, my heart is filled with hope and my life with happiness.
Just two or three words from you, “Good morning baby” or “I love you sweetheart” are all I need because I know your situation and you need to work long hours every day.
But last night you didn’t text me back and my heart sank in severe darkness.
I know you must have been very tired from working every day 12 long hours.
Any other woman would have given up on our love long ago. We don’t speak the same language, don’t come the same country or culture, don’t even have work schedules that match each other, don’t have the same religion, don’t listen to the same music, don’t laugh at the same jokes, don’t barely get to plant sweet kisses on each other’s tasty lips.
Cualquier otra mujer habría renunciado a nuestro amor hace mucho tiempo.
But still you held onto me long after others, with so much more in common, would have quit.
So last night, when you didn’t text, I got scared you fell out of love and into the common sense that says this is too crazy and you decided it was too much not to drop, and my heart sank.
I had asked you, because we couldn’t get our days matched up, to let me pick you up and spend the night and it seems you got reasonably scared because we’ve only seen each other in person for all of one work break and a meal at a restaurant but not really spent time together.
You are working to avoid deportation while I am working to avoid death from diabetes due to loss of insurance and massive debt.
Of course it seems wise at this time not to complicate our lives with the extremely hot fire of love. But honey I ask you please to do it anyway and come burn with me. For what is life without love but a living death? And there’ll be plenty of time to be dead when we really are dead. We’ve come so far and merged our hearts together in this great, amazing love, to give up now. We can’t give up, honey, We’ve got to hold on, we’ve come too far even in this short time already.
Yes, I know we are caught now having to take a tremendous risk and do something very scary or else lose everything we have together. I know spending nights together is the only way since there are no days we can spend together. I know we don’t know enough yet to know how the years will turn, both of us having brought ourselves to the bitter pain of divorce through the tempestuous flames of youthful desire. But I say, baby, no love is ever perfect and every love demands you sacrifice more for it than you want to or are comfortable giving. But I say to you, darling, be brave and take this chance with me while we still have it. I will be there with you every step of the way and I promise you you will be so glad even despite the hardship we must take now to get there. But as the first Selena sang in a song many, many years ago, the one who sang in both English and Spanish, “Listen to your heart”. Please my baby. Don’t listen to fear. I know we can win big. You don’t have to chant NAM MYOHO RENGE KYO with me. It is enough that I do for us to gain absolute victory in life. Just by supporting me, the one who does chant, you are assured absolute victory in life, victory over incredible odds. Let’s not let this movie come to an unhappy ending. People are watching us and want to see us happily married forever. Now is our chance baby. I beg you don’t be scared. Come. Come spend the nights we have now and Let’s build our love into a treasure trove of happiness so not only we but our friends can see that love can work out in the lives of two courageous who trust each other and the forces of fortune and that there is still a chance for the human race. Come. Come join me, and together Let’s smash this border wall once and for all.
To say, “I love you” isn’t enough to express all I feel for you, love, but I will say these 3 (or 2) words anyway because they’re all I have.
I LOVE YOU, Y_______
Somebody was talking about money the other day when I mentioned my determination to do only my mission of creating great writing the other day so I figured I ought to enlighten those of you who are still hostage to money about value and worth. Money, like truth (as first SG Pres. Makiguchi said), has absolutely no value. Those of you who’ve been around a few decades, understand the truth of this when you realize that a dollar today can get you little more than a mere penny could get you 50 years ago.
What you should be focusing on instead of money is spending power. Spending power is basically a product of 3 factors: the value of the money you possess, the market conditions, which itself is a product of what people are actually willing to spend on any given item plus the fixed higher price sellers are able to get from an item irregardless of what people were originally willing to spend, and in this category fall all kinds of things which include taxes, fees, things which don’t even exist that people are told are necessary or desirable commodities, in other words, a whole bunch of nothings which are dressed up in fancy sounding but totally incomprehensible words, and, finally the 3rd factor of LIFE CONDITION, which is actually the primary factor that enables a person to increase his or her own value to others as well as spend only on what one considers to be of true value that either matches or doesn’t exceed its preset market value. A person with a weak and unself-developed life condition will have much lower both spending and earning power than a person with a life condition that’s been built up over time by rigorous practice, self-discipline and unswayability. A person who is able to dream and never lets go of their dreams and works hard and wisely towards realizing them is such a person. Every dollar that would be wasted on the lottery is instead spent wisely. That is the vast difference in spending power, which neither a stock market report nor price index can possibly tell you. Are you happy and truly satisfied most of your day? If so, you have good spending power. If not, your spending power is very weak.
I am a writer being forced to be a medical transcriptionist in a system that is verged by the fear of many and the immorality of a few to collapse very soon and leave us all, rich or poor, in much bigger trouble.
The teachers in school said the few spoil it for the many but they never taught us how to fix that and look what our world has turned into. They were just talking about the one or two kids who act out and that’s why there was no way they could help us figure out how to stop the kids with 2-digit ages above 20 who have gotten their fingers on the controls of our financial system and are enslaving us into their reign of terror with no effective accounting or oversight.
As long as I’m alive, I will stay young. Whether it’s nurturing the next generation, fighting for equal justice for all or awakening people to the beauty of their lives, I will be totally vibrant and alive. What I was too scared, too sick and too overwhelmed to do for too long, I will be doing 3-fold for a very long time ahead. I dare all you 20-year, 30-year olds, to try to keep up with me.
Friday October 10, 2014: When I feel support and cooperation—and most of all CARING—from someone, I will go to the ends of the earth for them.
Hi. Welcome to my blog. Here is an excerpt from my screenplay, Return of the Green, the final scene, President Greenbaum’s final (unbeknownst to him) speech of his life in Dallas on the 50th anniversary of the assassination of President Kennedy. Happy 4th of July.
There seems to be a mean-
spiritedness about people who go
into politics, a desire to beat the
pants off the other side, a
competitiveness of such ugly nature
that it doesn’t even even have the
fun-spiritedness of sports. Perhaps
that can’t be totally avoided,
though I think you’ll agree that it
didn’t have to sink this bad that it
disgusts and turns off so many
people. I know I am forceful in my
approach. I am this way because in
such an atmosphere of deadlock,
there is no other way to do what we
really should be here to do: to
govern. To make sure that the basic
needs of all our citizens are met
and that threats to meeting those
needs are deterred. While I would
prefer being able to discuss and
negotiate how to do this, the
needs of the times and the
challenges that have been ignored
by our elected officials in
Washington for too long must be
met with decisive action now.
That is governing—having a sense of
mission of what it means first to
protect the American people, who
are the true sovereigns, and also
what it means to respond to the
founding gamut—to form a more
perfect union every day—every day—
not to lose sight of what it means
to put everything you got on the
line so that one American can be
happier today, so that one American
can be freer today, so that one
American can get a better shot at
improving his financial situation,
than yesterday. To stand on the
backs of the great innovators and
pioneers of the American spirit of
improvement and forever be at the
vanguard of new ideas and
approaches for humanity’s
betterment. That is the only reason
one should enter politics.
